SBR 128 Man Round 2 Review

November 12, 2008 by CrazyL

Round 2 of the 128 Man Handicapping is complete, and when I say man I do mean it, as our resident female NFL handicapper Sportsgirl has just bitten the dust with an embarrassing 1-8 -7.57 performance over fellow SBR forum poster Cavstime09. It was literally the most lopsided match in handicapping contest history, with Cavstime09 having his foot on Sportsgirl's throat the entire duration of the match with a dazzling array of winners.

In other news, our champ has fallen with rjt721 biting the dust and being trounced out by SBR forum poster mtneer1212. mtneer1212 went into this match as a sizable underdog as many cited rjt721's pedigree in this tournament and considered him to be a sure-fire advancer to next round, but mtneer1212 would have none of it. rjt721 suffered the post Superbowl victory letdown with his early exit, but nonetheless exited to a sea of applause from fellow contestants and fans alike.

SBR 128 Man Round 1 finished, Round 2 underway!

November 5, 2008 by CrazyL

The 128 Man Tournament is back with a vengeance!

Round 1 had some interesting moments, but most noticeably we saw professional handicapper LT Profits finally shake off the early round jitters and put in a fine display of handicapping, advancing past SBR forum poster SexyMit. LT seemed to really hone in on the slate of professional and college football offered, and was ultimately a bit too much for SexyMit to handle.

We also saw an electrifying match up between SBR forum posters bbyhill and Teela. Teela had started off 4-0 and looking like a sure-fire advancer into the next round, but bbyhill was simply too consistent down the stretch as Teela ran into some trouble with her NFL projections. It came down to Teela needing to go 2/2 on her last picks and ultimately she split those, losing with the Washington Redskins over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a small victory for the SBR newcomer, as she compiled a respectable 5-4 outing and lost narrowly to bbyhill's 6-4.

SBR 128 Man Registrations Underway!

October 28, 2008 by CrazyL

It's that time again. The SBR 128 Man Handicapping Contest is back! After last tournament was made such a success by all 128 SBR forum posters, the decision was made to launch another with the same record setting $3250+ prize-pool.

Our last tournament was won by SBR forum poster rjt721, who received a level of infamy for his bet on himself to win the entire tournament at 65-1 odds (courtesy of Bet Jamaica). rjt721 not only cashed in the $1250 first place prize, but an additional $3250! That's what this tournament is all about, proving your handicapping mettle and walking away with prizes if you're good enough.

This tournament will feature NFL/NCAAF, NBA/NCAAB pointspreads and totals exclusively. No more huge underdog Hail Mary’s knocking posters out, we’ve taken what was successful from last tournament, revamped and fine-tuned the rest and have come up with a more skill based competition as a result.

So what's stopping you from playing?

I know, it must sound confusing, or maybe that it costs money to play. Wrong. There are no deposits required anywhere, all picks are submitted on SBR forum, and should you be one of the "Elite Eight" as the field is whittled down, you're in for a serving of cashola! All you have to do is visit this SBR forum signup thread, submit your information and reserve your spot. There are only under 20 spots left, seats are being filled by the second, so stop reading this article and get over there to reserve your spot!

Ana vs Bartoli

The latest news about Ana!

Ana vs Bartoli

October 15, 2008 / Zurich, Switzerland

Ana takes on world No.16 Marion Bartoli of France in the second round of the Tennis.com Zurich Open on Thursday. It will be the third meeting between the pair, with Ana leading the head-to-head series 2-0.

However, both those matches took place more than three years ago. Ana beat the Frenchwoman in the quarter-finals in Canberra on the way to her first ever Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title in 2005. She followed it up later that year with a gutsy 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win in Toronto.

Since those encounters both players have improved significantly: Bartoli was a Wimbledon finalist last year and she has firmly established herself inside the world's top 20. She is the only elite female player to hit a double-handed forehand.

The match is scheduled as the third of the day on Centre Court, and will begin at 6pm local time (12pm Eastern Time) Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the Hallenstadion Zurich.

SBR 128-Man Handicapping Contest: rjt721 crowned champ

October 14, 2008 by CrazyL

By: | crazyl.mysbrforum.com

From a field that began 128 strong, poster rjt721 proved his capping mettle to be crowned the champion with a super 8-4 (+3.90 units) run in the championship.

After several intense weeks of handicapping action, the smoke has cleared and SBR forum poster rjt721 is crowned champion. He is the last man standing of a field that topped out at 128 entries, a record-setting number of contestants with an equally big prize pool ($3250+).

In addition to our congratulations to the champ rjt721, we would like to extend a warm thank you to every poster who participated in this event, and a great round of applause for our runner-up blittydeuce and our entire ‘Elite Eight’ finishers who each enjoy a taste of the juicy prize-pool pie. In what was the most highly viewed finals match in posting history, it was rjt721 who rose to the occasion and delivered a blockbuster performance in cementing his name in the SBR Forum Hall Of Fame. Both handicappers have been active contributors on the forum, and it couldn’t have worked out better from that perspective. You’d be hard-pressed to find an individual to mutter a bad word about either contestant, which speaks to their character and qualities as forum members.

The road to the finals wasn’t always pretty for both cappers, but each succeeded in showing their fellow SBR forum posters they deserved having their name under the bright lights. At times they breezed through with ease, and other times they put their heads down and really honed in on a slate of games that even world class handicappers like LT Profits, durito, and donjuan struggled with. At the end of the day, these two gentlemen have made a name for themselves and displayed the kind of handicapping skill we were so optimistic this tournament would draw.

They were strategic and aggressive, making it a point to really mix their games up through the course of the tournament and obviously that paid huge dividends. It was clear from the onset that each contestant was intent on playing their hand a little differently, one can only imagine the kind of game-planning that went into this 12-pick showdown.

With that, let’s recap all the action from the SBR 128 Man Handicapping Contest Championship Round!

The final started off with a bang, as blittydeuce looked to gain the upperhand but came up short his first few picks quickly landing himself in a 0-3, -3.35 hole, while rjt721 was licking his lips waiting to dive in on the action himself. It was all business for the consummate pro out of Boston, as he picked his spots masterfully in what is probably the best fundamental display of championship capping we’ve seen on this side of the globe. rjt721 was surgeon-like in slicing his way through this match, at times resembling a great prize fighter ducking and moving, doing just enough to coast through the match with victory in sight. rjt721 did the brunt of his damage with college football and major league baseball, mixing in a barrage of under bets and ultimately sealed the deal with an 8-4, +3.90 to 2-10, -8.43 victory.

Blittydeuce finished up the championship round with an array of Hail Mary soccer selections, but it just wasn’t meant to be as all lost and that was all she wrote in SBR’s 128-Man Handicapping Contest.

The tournament had its ups and downs for both handicappers, I feel that in examining both handicappers body of work one can deduce that these are two skillful players that any sportsbook wouldn’t welcome with open arms. In closing, both individuals have earned the respect of the entire SBR Forum community in staving off 126 other handicappers in what proved to be a turbulent, hard-fought affair where every capper was pushed to the limit.

A thanks to the following sportsbooks for their part in sponsoring this record setting $3250+ prize pool: Bet Jamaica, Bookmaker, Bet Online, CaribSports, 5Dimes. Last, but certainly not least we’d like to give a final shout out to the “Elite Eight” who clawed their ways to the winners circle: rjt721, blittydeuce, EaglesPhan3, Dwaechte, Cabo, Bmw530i, Fixxer, Sharktank1. None of this could’ve been possible without your participation, and also for the 120 others in helping make this turnout a success!

We look forward to the next tournament, and for our readers out there we hope that you’ll join in the fun next time You can expect the same incredible prizes and as enjoyable a time, now get out of here and beat your bookies!
